Welcome Home Hoosier Honey!

Hello my friends.  You know me, I had to get in one more decorating post before heading to Spain.

I have had this honey of a Hoosier Cabinet for years.  When we moved into our home in Alpine it really didn’t fit in with the décor.

IMG_0730

It has remained at our previous home for the last 3 1/2 years.  Our son bought the home so he had the honors of storing it for us.

Last weekend we brought her home.  I swear I saw a smile on her face.  Yes, I do think furniture have feelings.  lol!  I loved her as she was, but the oak just wasn’t going to cut it with our flooring.

After much consideration I decided to give her a coat of Antique white chalk paint.  I have a hard time painting pieces that are nice wood.

Here she is with her new look.  What do you think?

I quickly pulled out some of my old kitchen goodies and filled her up.  I’m sure it will get a little tweaking now and then.

Most everything is yard, estate, or thrift sale finds.  My sweet cherry cake holder was a give away win from Cindy at Old Time Farmhouse

I also bought the fan from Cindy.

I’m really loving her new look!

Even my Hoosier was found at a yard sale.  I remember not too long after we had moved into our Highland home I was on my way to a boutique.  Along the way I passed a yard sale that had antiques.  I spied this beauty and wanted her so bad.  She was $350.  I remember being so worried about buying her.  Hubby was gone hunting and I couldn’t talk to him to see if he thought it was o.k.  Remember, this was before the days of cell phones.  $350 was a good price, but that was a lot of money to a mother of 5 small children.  I just had to go with my gut.  I knew I would be so sad if I didn’t take her home.  All was well, hubby returned home and was very understanding.

It’s a purchase I’ve never regretted.  Even though I couldn’t use her for a few years.  She looks right at home in our basement farmhouse kitchen, don’t you agree?

hugs,

Jann

Oh-I love those old Hooisers. I would love to have one-although I don't have a place in this house for one. You have certainly amassed some wonderful collections over the years. I love coming here to see what you are up to- xo Diana

I LOVE Hoosier cabinets so I totally understand you having to have her.

I would have a hard time painting your cabinet, too. I have been tempted to paint one of mine but I worked too hard to get the four coats of paint off, so I won't do it. But yours looks WONDERFUL painted and I think it was a wise choice. Your cabinet is a Sellers Beauty, I think. I know it is a Sellers but not sure if it is a Beauty.(Well, it is a beauty, but you know what I mean!) I would have to look it up. If you have the original back on it, it should be written there.
I am glad you brought her home!!

I love your Hoosier! I'd like to have one someday myself. I also love your Pyrex ware inside it; I'm assuming it's vintage? The colorful bowls are especially beautiful. I'm here from the Sweet and Simple Fridays hop and am a new follower, looking forward to reading more. :)

Wow, that hoosier is FAB in white! How many rooms are in your house!? I hope you don’t mind that I’ve reposted it at my gallery, “The Blog Post Office”. It’s like a reverse linky. Please let me know if you are not happy with that, I can always remove it for you. But I’m really hoping you won‘t mind as all the posts will be a gallery of wonderful items.

Thank you so much, Victoria Lavender

Oh my goodness! Your Hoosier is FABULOUS! I love it in its new white paint too. My grandmother had a hoosier in her kitchen and my memories of it are vivid and sentimental. Hers was painted white so this really touched my heart. AND...you got a great deal on a lovely find.

Have fun in Spain! I know you will.

Jennifer
